Welcome Weekend

Welcome weekend is four days and five nights full of fun, non-alcoholic entertainment to welcome all students—new and returning—back to campus. Welcome Weekend is full of activities and outings planned for students by students, with something for everyone. Look for tickets and a complete schedule of events when you arrive on campus.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 23
11:00pm - 2:00am: CU on the Slope • Libe Slope
Kick off the year with CU on the Slope - the perfect way to meet and greet your friends after a great summer! Come and support your favorite Greek bands who will rock the night away as your dedicated Class Councils pass out awesome giveaways. Our volunteers will light up the slope with their glow rings and WW T-shirts (You want one too? Join the WW event team, and be a part of this Cornell tradition!). Hang out by the bonfires across the hill, as you all roast s’mores and kick back with a root beer—and it’s all on us. Welcome Weekend, bringing you the first annual school year kickoff event for everyone on campus. Co-sponsored by the Greeks and Class Councils. We can’t wait to CU out there!

THURSDAY, AUGUST 24

11:00am - 2:00pm: Lunch on the Quad • Arts Quad
Start off the first day of classes with a bang! Come meet all your friends, professors, and Cornell staff for lunch on the Arts Quad. What better way to mix and mingle with the who’s who of Cornell than to chill out with a great meal and enjoy the festive spirit of Fall 2006? From deans to Cornell’s executives, everyone at Cornell will come out to promote our campus pride and unity and build relationships among all members of the community. Come out for a bear hug from our official Cornell Big Red Bear mascot and a wonderful lunch served by Cornell Dining.

Welcome Weekend is bringing you a night of entertainment with Barry Drake! Everyone loves the 80’s, and Barry is the expert. From NACA, the organization that first showcased rising star comedian Dane Cook, Barry is a Cornell favorite, having won the NACA award five times. He brings you an exclusive dynamic and interactive show on Rock and Roll in the 80’s that you will not want to miss!

Last year featured glamour, glitz, and ritzy palm trees! Participants walked away with a digital camera, iPod, Jet Blue ticket vouchers, DVD player, and other hot prizes. Well, roll out the red carpet again, deck out in your suits and heels, as WSH will become an exclusive Moulin Rouge-style casino filled with dancers, entertainment, and over 100 tables of blackjack, craps, poker, roulette, and bingo. Work your way up to the high rollers lounge, and get a chance to gamble with Kent Hubbell, Dean of Students! With a full service mocktail bar brought to you by the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality, delectable hors d’oeuvres, and live music, you may find yourself walking away with the new it-prize, as well as a big smile on your face as you support our feature charity of the night, Operation D.E.E.P.

Join over 3,000 Cornellians for a night on the Plaza, Atlantic City style. That’s right, we’ve got your free funnel cake, cotton candy, popcorn, and great food from your favorite local restaurants and vendors. Check out the old-fashioned carnival games, clowns, jugglers, DJ’s, and karaoke, and walk away with some grand prizes, as well as some cuddly carnival teddy bears! Plus, giveaways abound-get your WW T-shirts and souvenirs, something you can save forever as part of your Cornell experience. You haven’t experienced Cornell until you’ve experienced the Street Fair. So join us for the unveiling of a spectacular new Ho Plaza, brilliant in multicolored lights, games, and fun for everyone!

SUNDAY, AUGUST 27
1:00pm - 4:00pm: ClubFest: Student Activities Fair • Barton Hall
Now’s your chance to become truly involved on campus! ClubFest introduces the student body to 300 groups that will showcase what each club has to offer, and you won’t want to miss some of our featured performances. Look out for your favorite groups as well as discover new possibilities! Free entertainment and food provided. And don’t forget to stop by the Welcome Weekend tent-we’d love to meet you, hear your comments, and tell you a little bit more about us. Thanks again for making our week and your week unbelievable!

6:00pm: For Transfers Only! You’ve Become a Pro, Celebrate: BBQ and (Root)Beer Pong with the Faculty • Outside Transfer Center
The official close of Transfer Orientation week, enjoy an event that is truly “Transfer Style.” Mingle with Transfer Center Faculty Fellows, the Transfer Center Staff, and new friends. Form a team and challenge others to (root)beer pong. Prizes will be awarded to top 3 teams. Sponsored by the Transfer Center.
