HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF ORIENTATION
Our lives are full of transitions: walking on our own, learning to drive, and selecting a college. Arriving in August begins your Cornell journey. It will also be a very independent journey, one that you must create for yourself with the help and support of your family, friends, and all of the faculty and staff at Cornell University.

The Orientation schedule is packed with exciting events. You willmove-in, get settled, and meet your Orientation Leader. Saturday through Wednesday is a mix of events, many are Academic and welcome you to Cornell’s Intellectual Community, others allow you to explore Cornell, and some are focused on meeting new people through fun and social events.

Plot your Course

Your time here at Cornell University is precious; use it wisely, and be proactive with regard to your needs and dreams. Consider what you want to be a part of while you are here. Will you be active in athletics? How about community service? Do you want to be in an honors program? Are you looking for research opportunities? Does participation in student government interest you?  It is up to you to ask questions, seek out information, and take full advantage of the programs, opportunities, presentations and more that will be offered during Orientation week and beyond.

Student Volunteers during Orientation
Cornell is unique in that current students play a huge role in planning your Orientation. The Orientation Steering Committee (OSC) plans and executes Orientation. Over six hundred volunteers serve as Orientation Supervisors (OSs) and Orientation Leaders (OLs), one of the most prestigious volunteer opportunities on campus.

You will be matched with an Orientation Leader from your college. Each OL has a group of six to nine new students who they help to acclimate to Cornell. You will be receiving an email from your OL in mid-July introducing themselves and telling you more about Orientation. During Orientation you will meet with your Orientation Leader many times starting on Friday, August 21st, which we call First-Night.
