Collaborating with Cornell faculty and staff, New Student Programs (NSP) promotes the best possible first-year experience for undergraduate students.
NSP inspires and supports students throughout their crucial first year by:
- Providing an orientation to Cornell and easing the transition to life at the University;
- Encouraging intellectual curiosity, cultural exploration, and informal interactions with faculty;
- Developing programs to promote diversity and inclusiveness; integrity; and a "commitment to freedom, equity, and reason"*;
- Exposing new students to services that support their academic goals, holistic well-being, and life pursuits; and
- Introducing new students’ families to Cornell.

New Student Reading Project — In the Summer of 2008, Cornell’s incoming undergraduate class will read Gary Wills' Pulitzer Prize-winning book, Lincoln at Gettysburg: The Words That Remade America. On August 24, during orientation, a panel of Cornell faculty members will discuss the book, and invite student questions, in preparation for the next day’s meetings of more than 220 small discussion groups. As in past years, 10 essay contest winners from the incoming class will receive gift certificates to the Cornell Store.
Transfer Student Program — A
program designed to support transfer students through
their first
year on campus.
Graduate School Student Services — Gateway to student services for graduate students.
New Students Website - Whether you are a first-year, transfer, graduate or professional student, your new academic journey has begun. This site will help you keep track of requirements for new students, provide answers to common questions, and help you learn more about Cornell's vast offerings.
